Head of the Executive Branch
Serving the 2025–2029 presidential term

Ecuador is a presidential republic in which the President of the Republic leads the executive branch and directs national public policy. Daniel Noboa began his current presidential term in May 2025 and is scheduled to serve through 2029. The president appoints cabinet ministers, directs public administration, manages foreign policy and serves as the highest authority over the armed forces and national police.

Legislative authority is exercised by Ecuador’s unicameral National Assembly, based in Quito. The Assembly debates and passes legislation, oversees government activity and considers national budgets and reforms. Ecuador’s current political agenda is heavily influenced by public security, organized crime, narcotics trafficking, economic growth, employment, energy, infrastructure and the country’s international partnerships.

Security remains one of the government’s most prominent priorities as Ecuador confronts gang violence, drug trafficking and illegal mining networks. Noboa’s administration has expanded cooperation with the United States and other international partners while also pursuing investment, trade diversification and economic development initiatives. These issues continue to shape relations between the presidency, legislature, judicial institutions, security forces and Ecuador’s provincial and municipal governments.
